Visiting Us…
Papplewick is a seasonal visitor attraction. When not holding a steam event, we are open between April and October on Wednesdays and Sundays 11am – 3pm. Follow this link for more details: https://papplewickpumpingstation.org.uk/visitor-information/
The pumping station holds eight steam events a year covering a variety of themes, from the English Civil War, Classic Vehicles and Artisan Fairs, to Steampunk and the 1940s.

You can either buy tickets at the pumping station on the day of the event or purchase them in advance online. Buying online gives you a discount.

You can either print your ticket or show it to staff on arrival via your electronic device.
An annual pass gives you 12-month free admission, from the date of purchase, to any of our steam or other events without having to book (does not include evening events). You receive your pass on the day of your visit and has to be signed.
An Annual Pass gives you unlimited free 12-month access to our steam events and any other event we run for the general public (except evening events). It ceases to be valid once you reach the expiry date shown on your pass.
Yes, it can be replaced if you have proof of purchase and/or gift aided your admission.
Email: director@papplewickpumpingstation.org.uk with the details of when you purchased your pass. This MUST be done 2 weeks before you wish to attend a steam event. Please note your replacement pass will be back dated to the day of purchase.
We offer guided tours to groups of 15 or more people most days of the week (not available at steam events). Please email: director@papplewickpumpingstation.org.uk with your enquiry.
At steam events, we open the main car park located opposite the main entrance of the museum. The car park is free for visitors to the pumping station.
(When not in steam, visitors can drive through the main gates and park on site).
Yes, but they tend to fill up quickly (spaces cannot be reserved).
Yes, dogs are welcome but must be kept on a short lead. They cannot enter the café (except for service dogs) or go on the reservoir tour.
Food, Drink & Facilities…
At steam events our onsite café serves a selection of hot pasties, freshly made sandwiches, snacks and ice cream. We also sell a wide range of hot and cold drinks.
When not in steam we have a small kiosk selling hot drinks and pre-packages snacks.
We have gluten free and vegan options available as well as a selection of milks.
Yes, these can be found in the disabled toilet and the ladies’ toilet next to the café.
Yes, we have a wooded play area with a zipline, swings, trim trail and other play equipment.
Accessibility…
The majority of the site is wheel chair accessible with exception to the engine house and underground reservoir. Whilst we do our very best to ensure universal access, we are bound by the historic nature of the pumping station and its Scheduled Ancient Monument status. No, provided they can show confirmation of being an official carer (see below), they are granted free admission.
We accept: Carer Passports, Carer Emergency Cards, Carers Discount Cards, Access Cards or an NHS letter confirming you are the person’s official carer.

Yes, you can.
For an additional fee the engines can be steamed but is dependent upon the availability of crew.
